letterboxing

So have you ever gone Letterboxing? Me either. I had never even heard of it until our friend Elaine told me about it over the weekend. We were talking about how Wyatt loves to go “exploring” and that for his birthday, that’s what he wants to do. She told me we would love letterboxing, that her family has done it before and it’s really fun for all ages. Well, she was right. Go to this website {here} and you can type in where you live or where you would like to go for a search. Then you are given directions of how to get to the location and clues. This one was easy, perfect for us, but there are some where you have to use a compass, etc. It’s a hobby for a lot of people and when we found what we were looking for it was a stamp…so it’s a way to stamp a journal or paper of some type, to keep up with all the places you have been. And all the “treasures” you have found. So yesterday morning I made the clue for Wyatt. I wrote down the clue from the website onto some scrapbook paper, then burned the edges, and crinkled it up to look old. He LOVED it! We were then on our way.

The clue read: Over by the mill, there is a big tree by the road just at the end of the fence. Look in the moss covered root to the right on the mill side.

This was our destination. How cool is this building!!! I’m thinking a fun place for a photo shoot. It used to be a restaurant. There is a pond and a campground there as well. You could go catch your fish then bring it here to be cooked! What a bummer, I wish it was still open, but the people retired and now it’s just the campground and the stocked pond.

It did take us a few minutes to find the tree and then we found the moss covered root! We pulled out the bag and opened it to find the stamp inside. Wyatt is stamping the paper and then signing his name. There were quite a bit of people over the summer that had been there. Boone just got his hands dirty.

We then walked over to the stocked pond. Check out those bass!

It’s a neat campground. Quiet and off the beaten path.

We had a fun time. This was the only one in our county but in the next county over there are TONS! I’m sure we will do this again and what is great is….you guessed it…it’s FREE!
