5 day challenge

5 Day Challenge

Our church is doing something this year called the 5 Day Challenge. From today, November 30-December 5 you are encouraged to give up something this week you would normally buy {i.e. Starbucks, going out to eat, etc.} and take that money you would have spent and save it for a special offering we are going to take up on Sunday. That money will then go towards feeding people who are in need in our community. You can also eat very moderately at home and use that money you would buy on groceries to contribute to the offering. Some suggestions our church gave was to eat oatmeal or cream of wheat, beans and rice with small pieces of fish or chicken. Use tap water instead of bottled. It’s up to you how you want to go about it. Our family is going to accept the challenge. To teach ourselves and our children what it means to give up something and give to others. You can do this in your community too. It doesn’t have to be through the church. This money can be given towards a homeless shelter, a domestic violence shelter, maybe you know a family in need, I’m sure some local schools know of kids and families who could use some help this time of year. Just something to think about as we celebrate Thanksgiving and enter into Christmas. We have a lot to be thankful for.
